If provided with assistance like a communal coffee village, would you be willing to engage in coffee farming?
Background
In May this year, Uganda was the biggest exporter of coffee
in Africa, but the country also has a high unemployment rate.
In article published in the New Vision In August 2014, Makerere University Proffessor, Samuel Kyamanywa,
launched a coffee village initiative in Kibaale, engaging 100 youth to plant 500 coffee trees.
The youth were equipped with modern farming skills and the
coffee village will serve as a center of research for those who want to practice
modern coffee farming. The project will help the youth with a source of
livelihood.
It is hoped that this project will revive coffee farming,
which has suffered due to outbreaks of coffee wilt disease. Kibaale was among
the most affected areas.
