Background
Domestic violence is defined as physical, verbal or sexual abuse that takes place within families. According to the 2011 Uganda Demographic and Health Survey, at least 56% of married women have experienced some form of domestic violence during marriage.
In Uganda, women who experience domestic violence can contact the Women Rights Institute in Kampala at +256 434 1251856, the nearest Women’s Protection Centre run by Action Aid, or their local Uganda Police Force Child and Family Protection Unit.
