BACKGROUND:
A fake or counterfeit phone have been defined as "copies of popular brands
and models made from sub-standard materials. They are usually not tested and
certified for safety and are often made from sub-standard components by parties
that are not the genuine brand owners.
The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) was recently quoted saying that
"counterfeit gadgets will be switched off at the end of November this
year".
Almost 95% of the phones on the Ugandan market are either imported from China, India or United Arab Emirates. Even though the phones imported from China are cheap and affordable, they are widely known as - "China phones" to mean counterfeits on the local market.
These fake phones breakdown very easily because they are not
durable and health experts say that they could cause cancer to the users and
people around them.
