If you had money, would you invest in UMEME shares?
BACKGROUND:
An initial public offering (IPO) is
a type of public offering where shares of stock in a company are sold
to the general public, for the first time. Through this process, a
private company transforms into a public company.
Umeme is currently wholly owned by Actis Capital a company owned by government of United Kingdom.
Looking
at the power outages Uganda experienced in the past few months, some
people say that UMEME’s future is not very clear. “MP Mpuuga Mathius
told Parliament UMEME has overcharged the public through its IPO. UMEME
has been grappling with 30% operational losses over the years.”
However
investment experts maintain that UMEME has made great progress over the
past few months and hence the future is bright for UMEME.
